Your death
hangs in the air--
your face
chiseled by pain--
each line drawn downward
with earth's gravity and sin--
pulls and strains your body
against the splintered wood.
I listen:
"Forsaken," you say.
By whom? Who are you
righteous man
that earth convulses
and noon sky
shrieks with darkness?
I wait and watch--
old graves split open
dead bones awaken
and rattle Victory
for your claim.
Amid the signs
I step back-- in wonder:
Truly, this was the Son of God.
