WHAT A DIFFERENCE
A DAY MAKES
While I understand all the reasons why retailers hang there profitability on holidays in general and Christmas in particular, I just have to share with you some thoughts that hit me like a brick. I saw these words on a flashing signboard in front of a national drug store chain the day after Christmas, "50% off Christmas". I am sure this was a bit of a typo but what a message nonetheless. I would like to look at this message and what it would mean to all of us if God took "50%" off of Christmas?
Well let me get back into the saddle and lets take another jaunt down one of those famous "Rabbit Trails".
Let's think for a moment if God just gave us "50%" of Christmas. I think it might be interesting to see just how many angels would make up "50%" of a "Heavenly Host", and would they just give "50%" of the shepherds keeping watch in the fields just "50%" of the information to find the Christ child? Would they make it all the way to the manger behind the inn that had no room? Jump forward to the 3 wise men, I wonder what 1.5 of them would look like. Would the star that guided them from afar be only "50%" as bright or would it only guide them "50%" of the way there?
Now on to Jesus' ministry along the theme of 50% off! Would he heal only "50%" of those he otherwise healed or only healed them to "50%" wholeness? Would Lazaurus have come out of the tomb half awake? What would it have been like to feed only "50%" of the 5000 with "50%" of the loaves and fishes?
I don't want to beat the proverbial dead horse here but just consider this last thought. If Jesus had only lived a "50%" sinless life and only purchased "50%" of our salvation, MAJOR BUMMER! If you think about this seriously, after you would die, you would spend the rest of eternity alternating "50%" of your time in Heaven and the other "50%" in Hell. Even a MORE MAJOR BUMMER!
Back to the sign, two days later the sign read 75% off remaining select Christmas items. Do the math either way, anything less than 100% of Christmas is not an option. As for myself, I am 100% in a sinful state and need 100% rescue! Retailers will always hurry on to the next "holiday" to sell a bunch of stuff to people, stuff we may be able to live without, but it is the "Holiday" thing to do?
