THE ROYAL ORDER OF
THE NOT STUPID HUSBANDS CLUB
Several years ago a close friend decided to get married. He was "getting up there" in years, you know early thirties. I laugh because I met my wife Debbie at the tender age of 14. After 6 years of off and on dating, I married the girl and we were "off to the races." It seems I might have done a better job at first of being a husband if I didn't think I knew it all.
So fast forward a few years and I have learned sooooo much. It occurred to me at a marriage conference that I had but one model to follow in being the husband Debbie needed. That model is this, "How would Jesus treat my wife if He were married to her?" That is where the spark of genius was ignited for the creation of the Royal Order of the Not Stupid Husbands Club. I asked my friend if we should be accountable to each other for the betterment of our wives. He agreed and that is how the club was started. As with any club, we needed a secret handshake and a super secret password. The handshake was merely a handshake. Original huh! The super secret password was, "Are you being stupid?"
The complexity of that phrase may be hard to grasp at first so let me expand upon it. Are you being stupid is asking if you are honoring Christ by unconditionally loving your wife. Are you daily laying down your life for her. Are you doing all you can, with God's help to let her be all that God would have her to be. And any of many other questions you may ask of another man may be inserted here.
You see the club was started as an inside joke between two friends but has been spreading over the years amongst friends as a way to make us all better husbands. As a charter and founding member of this society, I offer probationary membership to anyone who vows to uphold the goals of our group.
Now it is up to you. Are you being stupid?
