There has been a lot of controversy over the pluses and minuses of genetically altering our food. Some say better yields and pest resistance justify such tinkering. Others think we are "playing God" in the name of profit and "playing loose" with peoples' health.
To help you sort through this complex problem I offer the November 2005 Edition of the Heavenly Top Ten, which is:
“Top Ten Signs that Scientists have Gone Too Far with Genetically Modified Food”
- You're not sure, but you could swear that your salad is dodging your fork!
- Your steak just helped you prepare for your SATs!
- Your cultured yogurt has season tickets to the ballet and listens to Bach!
- Every time you open the fridge you sense that the lettuce is judging you!
- You could swear that the eyes on the potatos are following you around the kitchen!
- The milk, cream, and butter formed an alliance and voted margarine out of the fridge!
- The Olives have "pitted" themselves against the pickles!
- Strange, but you don't seem to have a mouse problem any more. Actually, you don't seem to have a cat or dog problem either; and Timmy! — where's Timmy?
- Your fears about buttermilk have been completely justified. It has been trying to gag you all these years!
- And the number one sign that scientists have gone too far with genetically modified food is:
- Your cauliflower has a PDA!
The Heavenly Top Ten is intended to be a fun look at
issues of faith and fellowship. It should not be considered a serious treatment
of
any of the topics presented.
